After school in Kazakhstan
College of Design, Route B 2027: verify school-duration or accepted-qualification eligibility. Unclear cases required pre-application review by 25 September 2026; do not automatically treat an ordinary 11-year Kazakhstan school certificate as sufficient. PEAK has no intake after fall 2026.
Admission tests
College of Design, Route B 2027 publishes expected SAT ≥1480 or ACT ≥33, not admission cutoffs or guarantees. Appendix B2 lists alternative qualifications. Application materials, essays, video and screening are considered together; old PEAK rules do not apply.
Language and proficiency
College of Design 2027 expectations: IELTS Academic >6.0; TOEFL >80 (0–120, before 21 January 2026) or >4 (1–6, from that date). These are expectations, not cutoffs. Tests must be from 1 January 2025; qualifying English-medium schooling can exempt applicants. Traditional Japanese-medium routes have different language conditions.
Selection statistics
Not published in this guide: comparable statistics for the chosen programme and international-applicant category have not been verified. A university-wide admission rate must not be treated as an individual Kazakhstan applicant’s probability.
An overall admission rate is not your personal probability. No exam score guarantees admission.
Tuition and full budget
The College of Design 2027 guide lists rates as of 2026: one-time admission fee JPY 282,000, annual tuition JPY 642,960. Required first-year accommodation: JPY 70,930 initially and JPY 82,300/month. Rates may change; food, travel and other expenses are additional.
Funding and obligations
College of Design offers competitive needs-based support of JPY 2,400,000/year plus the first-year admission-fee equivalent and specified inbound travel, for up to five years. Apply 15 October–5 November 2026. Continuation depends on financial need and academic performance. Merit support and MEXT are separate routes.
Preparation and application route
1. Choose a The University of Tokyo programme and confirm that your qualification is eligible. 2. Check subject and language requirements in the official source. 3. Prepare translated school documents and the required results. 4. Work out the full budget and check any separate funding application before submitting. 5. Apply under your intake rules, then check offer conditions and visa requirements.
Illustrative example — hypothetical scenario
Hypothetical scenario: a student planned a 2027 PEAK application and learns that its final intake was in 2026. They investigate current Japanese routes and the new College of Design, including its five-year format and school-qualification eligibility. They check preliminary qualification-review deadlines before the main application and do not reuse an old PEAK SAT threshold.
